Hanuman Chalisa
Origin
परशु (parashu) - axe + राम (rama) - pleasing; Warrior aspect of Vishnu wielding an axe.
Description
Parashurama is one of the 10 avatars of Vishnu. Born to the Brahman sage Jamadagni and the princess Renuka, Parashurama avenged his father's murder by Kshatriyas by annihilating them 21 times. He encountered Rama in the Ramayana, where Rama won the bow of the god Shiva given by Parashurama. The traditional founder of Malabar, Parashurama is depicted with an ax, and temples dedicated to him are found throughout India.
