Hanuman Chalisa
Devotional Songs
Derived from "vṛ" - to cover or to encompass; Symbolizing Varuna's cosmic role.
Varuna, a god-sovereign in Vedic Hindu mythology, personifies divine authority and rules the sky realm. He upholds cosmic and moral law (rita) along with the Adityas. Varuna, often invoked with Mitra, represents magical and speculative aspects. In later Hinduism, Varuna's role diminishes, and he becomes associated with the west, oceans, and waters, attended by river goddesses Ganga and Yamuna. He bears a resemblance to the Zoroastrian god Ahura Mazdā.
