Description

Shiva, also known as the "Auspicious One," is one of the main deities in Hinduism, worshipped as the supreme god by Shaivites. Shiva is depicted in various forms, including with his consort Parvati and son Skanda, as the cosmic dancer Nataraja, as a naked ascetic, and more. He is both an ascetic and a master of fertility, and his roles include being the Lord of Cattle (Pashupata). Shiva's female consort takes various forms like Uma, Sati, Parvati, Durga, and Kali. Temples and private shrines often depict Shiva in the form of the lingam. Shiva is also associated with the triad of deities, Brahma, Vishnu, and himself (Shiva), known as the trimurti.
