Mahavir Mandir is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located in Patna, Bihar, India. Million of pilgrims visit the temple every year and is the second most visited religious shrine in North India. As per thePatna High Courtjudgment in 1948 the temple exists since time immemorial. But from the scrutiny of historical facts and traditions it appears that this temple was originally established by Swami Balanand, an ascetic ofRamanandi sectin around 1730 A.D. This temple gained popularity in 1947 with large number of Hindu refugees coming toPatnaafter thepartition of India. Subsequently, temple was rebuilt as a concrete house at same time. Even this was broken down in 1987 to make a huge marble temple. The idol ofSankat-Mochanstands in it
Elevation:57mThe temple complex has three floors wherein the ground floor enshrines two idols of Hanumanji- one for Paritranay Sadhunam (protection of the good) and the other for Vinashay Cha Dushkreetam (elimination of the wicked). Around the garbhagriha is another passage where the idol of Lord Shiva can be seen. As one takes the stairs to the first floor, idols of Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesha, Lord Buddha, Sri Satyanarayan, Lord Rama, Mother Sita, Goddess Sararwati, Lord Krishna, Nandi, and Mother Parvati bless devotees with their benevolent look. The second floor houses the Sanskar Mandap where all rituals, mantra-chants, japa, recitals and Satyanarayana Katha are performed.Within the temple complex and below the Peepal Tree, one can see the cave-styled temple dedicated to Lord Shani.
