Hanuman Chalisa
Origin
Kalkin - associated with the future avatar of Vishnu.
Description
Kalkin is the final avatar (incarnation) of the Hindu god Vishnu, yet to appear. According to Hindu prophecy, Kalkin will manifest at the end of the present Kali yuga, an age marked by the absence of virtue and dharma. His role is to destroy the wicked and usher in a new age. Kalkin is envisioned seated on a white horse, wielding a naked sword, and shining like a comet. Unlike other avatars, he is less commonly represented in paintings and sculptures. According to legends associated with the end of the world, Kalkin's horse will stamp the earth with its right foot, causing the tortoise that supports the world to drop into the deep. Gods are then expected to restore the earth to its former purity.
