Description
In Hindu mythology, Vasudeva is the patronymic of the deity Krishna, a son of Vasudeva. Worshippers of Vasudeva-Krishna form an early theistic devotional movement within Hinduism. Merging with the Bhagavata group, they contribute to the beginnings of modern Vaishnavism, worship of Vishnu. A 2nd-century BCE inscription at Besnagar, Madhya Pradesh, by the Indo-Greek ambassador Heliodorus, honors Vasudeva. By the time of the Bhagavadgita, Vasudeva-Krishna is clearly identified with Vishnu.
