Hanuman Chalisa
Origin
सरस्वती (sarasvati) - flowing; eloquent.
Description
Sarasvati, the Hindu goddess of learning and the arts, is associated with the sacred river Sarasvati and identified with Vac, the goddess of speech. She is regarded as the patroness of art, music, and letters and is considered the inventor of the Sanskrit language. Sarasvati is typically represented riding a white goose, holding a vina and a manuscript. Her worship is associated with the advent of spring, and students and artists invoke her perennially and during examinations. Sarasvati is also prominent in Jain and Buddhist mythology. The identity of the Vedic Sarasvati with a major dry riverbed is debated.
