Devotional Songs
प्रजा (praja) - creatures + पति (pati) - lord; Lord of creatures and a creator god.
Prajapati, meaning "Lord of Creatures," was a significant creator deity in the Vedic period. In later times, Prajapati became identified with the Hindu god Brahma. Stories of creation attribute the origin of the universe and beings to Prajapati, who underwent ascetic practices. His female emanation, aiding in creation, is identified as Vac or sometimes Ushas, the dawn. The title Prajapati was given to various primal figures, collectively considered the "mind-born" children of Brahma, numbering 10 in general. Some relate them to the seven great rishis.
