Hanuman Chalisa
Origin
मत्स्य (matsya) - fish.
Description
In Hinduism, Matsya is one of the 10 avatars of Vishnu. Vishnu took the form of a fish to save the world from a great flood. Manu, the first man, tied his boat to the horn on the fish's head, which grew to giant size. Matsya may be depicted in animal form or in a combined human-animal form, with the man as the upper half and the fish as the lower half. Represented with four hands, Matsya holds the conch shell, discus, poses in conferring a boon, and adopts a protective pose.
