Origin

लोक (loka) - world + पाल (pala) - protector; Guardian deities of the directions.

Description

In Hindu and Buddhist mythology, Lokapāla refers to the guardians of the four cardinal directions. Hindu protectors include Indra, Yama, Varuṇa, and Kubera.
