Kubera | God of Wealth, Hinduism, Yaksha

Kubera's power lies in his lordship over wealth and prosperity, symbolized by his role as the treasurer of the gods.

Origin

कुबेर (kubera) - ill-shaped; deformed.

Description

In Hindu mythology, Kubera is the king of the yakshas (nature spirits) and the god of wealth. Associated with the earth, mountains, and all underground treasures, Kubera lost his palace to his half brother, Ravana, and now resides near Shiva’s home on Mount Kailasa. Kubera, depicted as a dwarfish figure with a large paunch, is the guardian of the north and is often shown holding a money bag or a pomegranate, sometimes riding on a man. Also known as Vaishravana and Jambhala, Kubera is a popular figure in Buddhist and Jain mythology.
