Hanuman Chalisa
Sthala Puran
The chief deity of this temple is Manjunatha. At the north of the temple there are seven u2018Kundasu2019 ( ponds ), consisting of holy water. At the North u2013East of the area, holy water flows out of a small tunnel, designed as a cowu2019s head, known as u2018Gomukha Teerthau2019 . The holy water is said to be flowing in from u2018Holy Kashiu2019, as River Ganges, also known as u2018Bhagirathi Teerthau2019.After donating everything to u2018Brahmanasu2019, Parashurama started meditating to please Lord Shiva. Parameshwara was pleased by his devotion and said, u201cHey Parashurama, I reside at Rasakoopa which is in Suvarna Kadali Vana. Go and offer your prayers for Me thereu201d.But, at that time Suvarna Kadali Vana was immersed in the ocean. Parashurama, with his divine powers, brought it out of the ocean and worshipped at Rasakoopa for a long time.At last the u2018Trimurthiesu2019, combined their divine powers and took the form of u2018Sri Manjunathau2019 and fulfilled Parashuramau2019s desire. The u2019Sapthakoti Mahamanthrau2019 of seven Crore holy hymns, converted themselves into the seven holy kundas(ponds). u2018 Shiva Pushkarni u2018 is the most popular among them. At the same time, the holy Ganges i.e., Bhagirathi teertha started to flow from north east side of the temple. In the history of the place, they have explained the advents of well-known saints viz., Mathsyendranatha, Gorakshanathau00a0 and Chowranginatha. It has been explained, in the books that, Mathsyendranatha, an incarnation of Lord Shiva came to u2018Swarna Kadali Vanau2019 while returning from Sathi Rajya along with queen Mangala, an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi and His favorite disciple/student Gorakshanatha. There they were welcomed by the remaining disciples. At that time, Mathsyendranatha, decided to establish one u2018Shiva lingamu2019 in Suvarna Kadali Vana. So He told his disciple to go to Kashi and bring a u2018Shiva Lingamu2019.But, Gorakshanatha couldnu2019t bring the Shiva Lingam at the specified time. So, Mathsyendranatha started meditating. As a fruit of his meditation and to the surprise and happiness of all the saints there emerged a u2018Shiva Lingamu2019 at that place. After this, the Shiva Lingam, which was brought by Gorakshanatha from Kashi was of no use. So, it was kept near the holy water.Behind the temple of Manjunatha, on to the west is the temple of Goddess Durga. To the Northern side is the temple of Lord Ganesha. In front of the temple, at a height there are 7 water ponds. There's a garden surrounding the ponds. There is a natural springu00a0 on the backside of the temple. It is called as Gomukha. The water from this spring is let into 7 ponds and devotees wash themselves in the pondsu00a0 before entering the temple.
