Vishnudham Mandiru00a0is a temple on the border of the village Bherwania & Sadiha andBhervania, where a statue ofLord Vishnuwas found by a carpenter underneath a tree in 1998. The temple was constructed in South Indian architecture by local villagers and authorities, at the site of the statue. It is the largest idol of Lord Vishnu in north Indiau00a0made up of black granite and measuring 7.5 feet long and 3.5 feet in width. The idol belongs to the Gupta period. The idol has four arms carrying a "sankh(conch)", a "chakra(discus)", a "gada(club)", and a "padma (lotus)". There are two figures u2013 one masculine and another feminine u2013 below the left and right arms of the idol. An idol of goddessLaxmiwas also recovered from the spot but it was stolen. This temple, Sri Varadraja Perumal Devasthanam or Vishnu Dham strongly adheres to Sri Ramanuja Sampraday of Vaishnava theology which is based on vaishnava agams(Panchratra and Vaikhanas) agams and nurtured by vaishnava saints ( Alvars u2013 which are 12 in numbers) and further supported and expounded by Vaishnava acharyas. The sampradaya which was following the visistadwait (specified nondualism ) was given a high pedestal by Sri Ramanuja by writing a masterpiece commentary over Bramhasutra ( Uttar mimansa or sarirakmimansa of Badarayan). The sampraday was further nurtured and supported by post-Ramanuja Acharyas. The temple closely follows the tradition and philosophy of Ramanuja Sampradaya. The Pancaratrins believe that all are qualified to offer worship, there being no restrictions based on caste, age, sex or learning provided they are made to undergo branding with the Vaisnavite symbols of the wheel and the conch and undergo diksa. Thus women also are eligible for initiation. The Pancaratra texts also say that while all are eligible to offer worship in the house after initiation, only Brahmins are eligible to offer worship to the deity in a temple.
